Writers like Hickman build their own stories and their own personal continuity at Marvel, which is great, but I don't get the feeling of writers building on the ideas of past writers and weaving everything into something bigger than themselves, which is the one thing shared characters can do that personal characters can't. Of course you'd point out '90s comics were too editor driven, and that's worse. True.
@8 years ago with 21 notesWell, to use the example you pointed to, Jonathan’s whole storyline builds on the concept of the Illuminati, which was devised by his predecessor on AVENGERS, Brian Bendis. So that’s a tangible and direct instance of one writer building on an idea from a past writer and weaving it into something bigger.
